Opening Question:  If you could learn one thing and become a master of it by the snap of your finger, what would that one thing be?
– Going to talk about being smart today!
– The Bible has some interesting perspectives on what it means to be smart.
Question:  What do you think it means to be smart?

I Corinthians 1:18-32
– The Bible is talking about being wise.
– It says, “Not many of you were wise by human standards.”
– Therefore, there must be a difference between human standards of wisdom and spiritual standards of wisdom.

Question:  What do you think it means to be smart spiritually?
Question:  Who are some people today that are known for being smart?
Question:  What would determine whether or not God thinks they are smart?

James 3:13-18
– The Bible spells out what spiritual wisdom looks like as opposed to worldly wisdom.
– One comes from Heaven and the other comes from the devil.

Question:  What are some of the characteristics that come from God? From Satan?
Question:  Do you think being smart in a worldly way is good?
Question:  Ultimately, How do we know if someone is a smart person according to this scripture?

Challenge:   Being smart from a worldly point of view doesn’t help people in a way that really matters. The only thing that matters is that we’re smart enough to go after a relationship with God! I want to challenge you to make the smartest decision of your life: start studying the Bible with the person who brought you to our Bible discussion!
